My Journey With Crohn's Disease - Part 7

fragmin injections

It has now been 15 weeks since my op and things are going really well at the moment. My weight has now gone above 12 stone, so pretty much back to where it was before i had the issues which resulted in me being hospitalised, and my fitness and strength is increasing all the time.

A week and a half ago i had another operation on my anal fistulas. It was a relatively low key operation, for which I was in hospital for a day. They basically needed to go in deeper to deal with another abscess which I have had since well before lockdown, to work on the fistulas themselves and to replace the setons which are holding the wound open. There was a little concern that it may affect my bladder, but once in, they realised that wasn’t the case. To be honest, I have had pretty much zero issues after this procedure, no extra wounds than I already had and there is currently less discharge than there has been previously. I had the next day as a recovery day and then back to work the following day.

Last weekend I joined in the warm up with my football team, and felt absolutely fine. I’m hoping if I continue to progress well, I’ll be able to make myself available to play in the next few weeks, starting off slowly and building things up as I have been since my operation. I’ve been teaching classes, walking quite alot and increasing my gym workout intensity.

I also had a phone appointment with one of my specialists, who explained that once I go onto medication, they’ll be looking at putting me on the most potent medication called Adulimumab.

All in all, I’m feeling good, optimistic and cracking on with as much as I can. I still have times of being tired but that’s just part and parcel of Crohn’s and something that I just need to accept and deal with. Thank you once again to everyone who has shown support and to those who have helped me through this time.

The photos below show my weight after the operation, my current weight, the needles I had to use for my Fragmin injections (60 of the buggers, some of which were very painful) and the 2 different types of bag I’ve used.
