My Journey With Crohn’s Disease - Part 8

Wow, well that was no joke.

Yesterday I had the worse stomach cramps I’ve had since my original hospitalisation and subsequent stoma fitted in 2020.

I’ve had mild cramps since having the stoma reversal in 2021, but this was another level. I don’t mind admitting I was a little scared. The “oh shit, here we go again” thoughts running through my mind.

I was told before having the reversal that there was a 50/50 chance that in the following 5-10 years I would need a stoma again, so I am kind of prepared for it. But that’s a big “kind of”. Yesterday I was scared it was going to be happening.

The cramps started at around 2:30 in the afternoon. Quite mild. “I’ll just lay on the sofa for abit”. Then they began to get worse so I went to bed about 4:00. Very much like 2020.

I tried using our electric heat mat (probably cost a bloody fortune), tried sleeping but the cramps got worse and worse. This went on until about 10:00/10:30 ish (not really sure as wasn’t watching the time). I awoke when char came to bed (she had been checking in during this time lol) around 11:00 ish.

I am now writing this at 03:00 having slept on and off. The cramps have subsided but my stomach now feels like I’ve done 1000 crunches, and I physically feel shattered.

The cramps come and go when I’m in a flare every 5 seconds or so, and having to deal with that for 5, 6, 7 hours is bloody hard work and tiring.

My body is shattered and my eyes are tired but can’t currently sleep. Let’s hope I can sleep for a few more hours until morning.

Shit illness, but there are people having it worse. Let’s hope that’s it for a while.

*update. I went to sleep at about 6am for a couple of hours.
